Ukraine appears set to try and seize the initiative in the conflict with Russia. Buoyed by Western arms support and Russia’s failure to make significant progress through its offensive this winter, Kyiv now has a window of opportunity to recover territory from Russian forces.
The outcome of this offensive is likely to be strategically significant. It will illustrate the extent to which Kyiv’s publicly stated goals are feasible, and will probably shape the stances that Western governments take on the conflict.
